Ciusa Museum Nuoro

The “Tribe Space” Francesco Ciusa Municipal Museum is housed in the building of the old Court of the city; it is a historic building and, as such, bound, from a historical-architectural point of view, by the Superintendency for Architectural Heritage, Landscape, Historical, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Sassari and Nuoro. Located in the historic center, in Piazza Santa Maria della Neve, in front of the Cathedral, the building was initially restored to house the library of the municipal historical funds. subsequently, given the excellent quality of the spaces, it was also intended to house, on a permanent basis, the regional collection of works by the well-known Nuoro artist Francesco Ciusa; the municipal historical archive; the Gateway to the Homogeneous System of Visual Identity of Places and Cultural Institutes of the Sardinia Region; finally, temporary exhibitions and art workshops.

Il Fromboliere (The Slinger)

(Sculture by Francesco Ciusa – 1941)

Also known as the “David Barbaricino”, it is the last sculpture by Francesco Ciusa and was created between 1939 and 1940 on the occasion of the artist’s short stay in Orgosolo.
The artist saw a young shepherd boy throw a stone with a leather slingshot and immortalized him in an everlasting work, perhaps among his most beautiful.
