Luca Micco - DEMIUR ATELIER

In the central Piazza Garibaldi, Moncalvo welcomes a restaurant out of time and space. It is a fashion atelier with the vocation of promoting the territory.

Crossing the threshold you find yourself in a cozy living room, where the exposed brick of the vaults combines perfectly with modern furniture made with recycled materials. Displayed on the mannequins are dresses that with their nuances recall the typical colors of the Monferrato countryside.

Some tourists come in and talk to the owner who explains to them the creative history of each individual garment. Sitting on a comfortable armchair, an elderly man from Moncalvese observes with a look full of pride that designer, who as a child loved to discover the hills and their treasures.

Garments born in Monferrato to go everywhere: exactly like Luca who from Moncalvo has landed with showrooms in Hong Hong, Dubai, Qatar, USA. Her first experiences in the fashion industry came from the meeting with Clelia Cortemiglia, an international artist and painter, a pupil of Lucio Fontana, known for her works made with pure gold on canvas. Cortemiglia’s golden canvases inspired Micco to experiment with innovative printing techniques. In 2011 Micco invented and patented the method for applying gold and precious metals on any type of fabric. In 2014 the springboard: his first fashion show in New York with Renzo Rosso (Diesel).

Since then, there have been numerous prestigious collaborations over the years (including Pinin Farina, Los Angeles Lakers, Blu Capri, Rinascente Milano, Liberty in London and L’Eclaireur in Paris). Many famous people have worn her garments such as Tori Spelling or Ivanka Trump. In 2017 he decided to sell Horo, his first brand, and start a consulting and collaboration project with companies in the luxury sector.

Micco’s collections, which synthesize all his past experiences, are inspired by nature and the colors of Monferrato. “Each piece is unique. I start from the yarn and get to the garment passing through the shape, the prints and the dyeing. They are clean, essential shapes: the simplicity of Monferrato that can be found in my way of being and in my clothes. I also use raw metals, such as bronze and zinc, and I melt them with fabrics.”

Everything is coherent in Luca Micco’s story. His experiences of transformation, fusion and contamination of materials could only bring him back here, where it all began, and to his new brand. “My new brand is called Demiur, which derives from demiurge [a person with exceptional creative skills who profoundly affects reality]. My garments are an alchemy of colors, shapes and materials, which develop and draw inspiration from the environment.

I use organic yarns, ecological wools, natural fibers, such as bamboo or milk fabric made soft by casein. I use natural dyes applied with an airbrush both inside and outside the garments. Here you can find cashmere with its sartorial simplicity and attention to detail that gives it a contemporary touch. My clothes can be worn here as well as in New York.”

There is a neologism that perfectly sums up Luca Micco’s idea: “glocal”, made in the club to be worn anywhere. We are in the smallest city in Italy, which opens up to the world, to the global.
The alchemy that distinguishes Micco’s path is also found in the vision of the future of the atelier which, in addition to the possibility of direct sales, also wants to be a place of culture and synergies, a living room, an art gallery. In fact, in Luca’s project there is the idea of hosting Italian and foreign artists.
